Karen Llagas currently teaches courses on Intermediate Filipino, as well as summer courses on Philippine cuisine & Filipino mythology, and seminars on Filipino spirituality and Filipino women writers at UC Berkeley. You can find her research interests and full CV at her faculty page.
Recent projects include a fellowship with the Berkeley Language Center to explore the use of proverbs in the critical language classroom, and a UCB's Lecturer Teaching Fellowship focusing on the intersections of social justice and social media in the foreign language classroom.
In 2021, she launched Tagalog Classes Atbp., which aims to teach Filipino language and culture to the wider community, and brings together Filipino/Tagalog teachers and learners from all over the diaspora.
In addition, she serves as a board member for the Philippine Writers and Artists (PAWA), and helps organize its bi-annual Filbookfest.
She has worked on Tagalog reference books such as the revised 3rd edition of Basic Tagalog, available through Tuttle Press.
